The Healing Stories Project

The Healing Stories Project will offer live storytelling events, workshops, and resources exploring writing, telling, and witnessing the important stories of our lives

Please join us for a hands on writing workshop:

Writing For Healing

Wednesday July 10th

$25; Pre-registration required

This workshop is based on Duke Integrative's evidence based writing program to build resilience, reduce stress, and improve your quality of life.

The Writing For Healing workshop at the Wellness Station will be an introduction to expressive writing as an activity that can contribute to health and healing.

Participants will experience a “taste” of several easy and accessible ways to explore expressive writing. You don’t need to be a “writer“ and everything you write will be for your eyes only, unless you choose to share. Because this is a short introductory workshop, don’t expect to be asked to delve into the tender territory of trauma or recent loss. Expressive writing, over time and with support, can be a wonderful tool for approaching the complex feelings and effects of trauma. The focus of this class will be on breadth more than depth as you experiment with different kinds of writing, practice reflecting on your writing, and discover what you learn by writing.

Future classes may offer opportunities for ongoing exploration and work with various expressive writing models.

Crafting and telling stories from our life experience can be powerfully healing.

Storytelling offers discovery of new insight, unexpected resolution of difficult feelings, and wisdom to share with others. Creating a narrative is an opportunity for reflection; often the process reveals transformation. We may find we see our experience differently—suffering might become redemptive; loss may uncover unknown capacities of love and support; diagnoses can lose power in light of meaningful new perspectives. Telling stories about the meaning found in challenges can kindle community and inspiration for others on similar journeys. For a wonderful taste of live storytelling, check out The Moth Radio Hour.

Discovering and sharing our own stories of kindness, tenacity, resilience, wisdom, courage, foolishness, power, compassion, and humor is at the heart of the Healing Stories Project.

We are just beginning. Sign up for our newsletter at the bottom of the page to stay tuned for information about how you can join us on our empowering, community-building, storytelling journey!
